One of the most frequent questions I get asked is what to wear to an engagement session. I struggled coming up with outfits that would look good in photos. What colors are best, what style is most flattering - I was stumped. Looking back, I'm happy with what Tom and I put together (thankfully) and we love how our engagement photos turned out!

As far as outfits, we've seen tons of really cute outfits for engagement sessions so always feel free to ask me or send me a picture of what you're thinking of. Generally, I think that soft colors (neutrals, pastels) photograph beautifully. Having a soft palette really highlights you and your love instead of distracting from you. Textures are another great way to add interest. This could be a great pair of cords, a beautiful lace dress, a tweed jacket or a chunky scarf for cooler sessions. These two elements alone will be great building blocks to your outfits.

The only thing I don't suggest is that both of you wear jeans in the same outfit - it can start looking like a lot of denim. If your guy wears jeans, you could wear a long dress. Then in your second outfit, your guy could wear cords and you could wear cute skinny jeans and some great shoes. Dark wash jeans look the best in photos as they're a little more finished looking than other washes. Along with Greta and Austin's great outfits from their engagement session this summer, I've put together a Pinterest board that might help and you can check that out here.

There are so many great possibilities - the important thing is to wear things you are comfortable in and feel really good wearing.  The better you feel, the more beautiful you will look in your photos. Along with putting together a few stylish outfits, this is a great opportunity for some pampering. Whether that means getting a manicure to show off your new bling, or doing a trial run of hair and make-up for your wedding day, these little touches can really make your engagement session extra special. All that's left to do after that is come to your session ready to have fun and create beautiful memories!
